How Can the ‘Tuning in to Teens’ Program Support You?
Welcome to Tuning in to Teens—a six-week, evidence-based parenting program designed to support you in raising emotionally intelligent, resilient, and connected young people. Whether your teen is struggling or thriving, this program equips you with the tools to better understand and respond to their emotional needs during one of life’s most transformative stages.
What Is Tuning in to Teens?
Tuning in to Teens (TINT) is a six-week course delivered in 2-hour sessions once a week. The program offers practical guidance to help you support your teen through the emotional ups and downs of adolescence.
You’ll learn how to respond to emotional challenges in ways that strengthen connection, reduce conflict, and encourage your teen to open up about what really matters. These skills have been shown to reduce the risk of mental health issues and substance use, while building strong, trusting family relationships.
Why Emotional Intelligence Matters
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the ability to recognise, understand, and manage emotions—both your own and those of others. For parents, developing a strong EQ helps you stay calm during conflict, connect more deeply with your teen, and model healthy emotional expression.
For teenagers, a high level of emotional intelligence is linked to:
Greater resilience during tough times
Stronger peer relationships
Improved self-awareness and self-esteem
Better decision-making and fewer behavioural challenges
Confidence in navigating social settings
Academic and extracurricular success
